The Biden administration must do all it can to unwind the federal death penalty. Also: News on Texas's death penalty. And, for paid subscribers: Closing my tabs.
Killing people is just wrong, no matter who does the killing. State sanctioned murder is disgusting. In my not so humble opinion, life without possible parole is a more serious punishment than execution but I doubt people stop and think about it. To complete my rant, I doubt people stop and think about much, period. Why we're in the ditch to begin with.
Another comment, this re: the 7th CCoA upholding Indiana's anti-trans care ban.
Specifically, the Court's finding that the state’s ban on a medical provider “aiding or abetting another physician or practitioner” in providing such care does not target speech.
Whoa. I want a hit of that joint, friend.
A doctor asks an out-of-state physician if they provide trans health care. Crime!
A doctor tells a patient where they can obtain care legally. Crime!
A doctor sends a patient's medical records to an out-of-state physician where the care can be obtained legally. CRIME!
And this does not impact speech? Are they crazy or stupid?
The answer is neither. They knew exactly what they were doing and the impact it will have. They just don't give a damn.
Wait, I take that back. They do give a damn. They want that impact to happen. Because that is who they are.
Wishful thinking. Joe Biden has done quite enough … and he will be blamed for it forever. I think the Court should take matters into its own hands … literally. SCOTUS seemingly delights in executing prisoners, it should perhaps personally strangle each wrongdoer, even though some are innocent. After all, Justice Thomas - the very definition of a DEI hire - is against affirmative action (despite his benefitting from it), against ALL liberal decisions (except Loving v. U.S.) but happy to go dancing in Bali. These stern right wing legalists (like Kacsmaryk) sit on benches, ride in chauffeured cars, strip common citizens of rights while cherishing their own insularity and righteousness … too damned easy.
The death penalty is a remnant of barbarism that must be abolished.
Some 56% of the nations of the world have abolished it; 12% have it on the books but haven't used it over 10 years and have a policy of not using it; 5% limit it to have abolished it except those committed under exceptional circumstances such as during war.
So just 28% of nations have and use death as a means of enforcement.
It's time, past time, for us to join the majority of the world.

I also wish Joe Biden wasn't Joe Biden but alas
