The Florida business of Reichsmarschall DeSantis sending his - *cough-cough* - "election police" after petition-signers really takes the biscuit. Talk about chilling 1st Amendment rights! No shame, none at all in sending goon squads door-knocking citizens who wished to have amendments to the state constitution up on the ballot. How is this shite even remotely legal?

God. I hope the Dems take down Scott in their senate race in 8 weeks.

I also don't understand how it's legal. Are there any federal voting rights laws, etc., still intact?!

I assume that he is exposing the state of FL to potential lawsuits with the gestapo tactics. However, it is FL and it is run by ignorant dolts. Who knows how this will end. On the other hand, hearing this caused me to donate more $$ to the "Vote Yes on 4" website.

Does Warren have a recourse? I understand the courts ruled that DeStalin could fire him.

Don’t the voters have a say?

The voters have a say in November. Whether DeSantis tries to overturn their will again will be his call. If he does, Warren — I imagine(?) — might challenge it again, maybe starting out in Florida courts with a more clear case and without the Florida courts' ability to dodge it on timeliness again. (Which is what happened last time.)

If Republicans don’t respect the rule of law, then why should citizens feel constrained to remove them only through legal elections?

Having lived in Missouri, not surprised at their AG. Once upon a time, it used to be a decent state. No longer.

And Florida...my god. What the hell is wrong with the people of Florida? They like dictators? Does it make the *old farts sleep better at night?

*note, I'm an old fart in Georgia, who thinks Florida old farts are cracked

Did the Arkansas ruling about paid canvassers apply to any other ballot measures in that state? I looked it up and it has to do - perhaps speciously - with a failure for the petitioners to file a paid canvasser training certificate. I couldn’t find out if this standard was applied for other measures. I did discover that only petitions using paid canvassers have to provide such training, which covers the laws and regulations of signature collection. Measure which use volunteer signature gatherers don’t require such training in Arkansas.

The canvassers in Arkansas did everything correct, including training and getting their paperwork in on time - this is just another fascist move by Arkansas republicans to prevent voters from voting on reproductive healthcare.

Other successful petition organizations have come out and stated that they did the same thing, and the state let it pass.
