The United States needs leaders willing to speak forthrightly about our past and ambitiously about our future in order to make it through the treacherous present.
Justice Jackson is the conscience of the Court in her constant reminders that the US is more — much, much more — than a majority white and majority straight aggregation of peoples under one flag and one Constitution. Long may she serve ALL Americans call for justice.
How absolutely shameful that Justice Jackson speaks truth AND reality to a court that buries its illogic either in fanciful justification … or shadow docket silence.
I needed this today! A beautiful idea that she is writing for the future in which she hopes to live. When we look back at history, the vast majority of Americans are proud of the civil rights acts, of court decisions that spread justice and equality, of the words of Lincoln at Gettysburg. I truly believe her words are the ones we will look to, not those of fascists and racists.
While I deeply appreciate Justice Jackson's writing in dissent, I am also cognizant that the conservative right doesn't give a crap about her views. Eloquency does not take away my fears, as a transgender person, that more is to come from this court that will adversely impact my life. To me, this was just another day on the calendar. That is because until every person in this country, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity is truly free, none of us are free. You will likely notice I left out freedom of religion. Religion is being used as a cudgel to oppress minorities, especially the LGBTQ+ community.
This is why it is important to have people of different sexes, races & ethnic groups on this Court & every other. People have different experiences & interests & are exposed to different treatment by others. This leads to insights & knowledge that others are unaware of b/c it's outside their own experiences. Now, if only the 6 "conservatives" on the USSC could open their minds to that fact . . . But no, that is not going to happen.
Speaking of the future, I could definitely see a future Chief Justice Ketanji Brown. She is a brilliant woman who deserves to lead an expanded high court (w/27 justices) in reconstituting the rule of law.
Meanwhile, it continues to amaze me how the "originalists" on the high court continue to add words that don't exist to modify laws and the Constitution so they fit neatly into their neoconservative, illiberal, White Christian view of America. If Title IX restricted "sex" to "sex at birth", it would have used those exact words. It does not. Kudos to Justice Ketanji Brown for calling out the indefensible position of the majority.
Excellent closer look at Jackson's writing, particularly in regards to West Virginia. I've heard some of the crap about her being a traitor to the trans community, and it burns the hell out of me.
Justice Jackson is the brightest light we've had in many years. In my opinion, and no offense to Sotomayor and Kagan, the best justice.
As an aside, sometimes the left can be as stupid as the right when it comes to making sweeping, ignorant assertions, Chris. Don't let the idiots get you down.
Thank you for this discussion. Her work is brilliant.
Wow! So beautifully written about biological sex and gender identity! I’m so glad she’s on the court! Thank you, Chris!
Jackson is leaving stone markers, not bird crumbs. And thanks for all you do!

We need four more like her on the bench
Or eight more!
I hope that one day soon, she will be Chief Justice. For now, the term justice has lost it's meaning.
I celebrate her with you! 💙
IMHO SHE should be Chief Justice…

Thank you, Justice Jackson.
Thanks, Chris. And thanks, Justice Jackson, if you’re reading this. Semiquincentennial is halfway to 500. Onward! 💪
Thank you. Made my day! Good reminder that the constitution was amended many times. Seems it’s been too long. Separation of Powers is failing!
