Justice Alito had two decisions backing restrictive immigration policies and a ruling striking down a Hawaii concealed carry restriction. Is a retirement announcement coming next week?
So, Alito is fine being a virulent racist so long as you don’t call him one? Pretty rich. All he has to do is muse about Trump wanting to suspend TPS for black and brown people, while expanding it for Afrikaners, and the answer is obvious. Of course he’s blind to all of that. He’s an awful person married to someone who might be even more awful. I’m old enough to know that conservatives on the court were not as intellectually dishonest in prior times.
Even more amazing is that Alito’s family must have endured the bigotry shown to Southern Italians and Roman Catholics … and yet, instead of empathy, he prefers the power of the whip hand.
Ah, Clarence — the perfect DEI hire, the right’s (cynical) replacement for Thurgood Marshall … once he got the full benefits of affirmative action, he denied them for others. And got himself a nice sugar daddy too.
I've watched 45 minutes of this so far...... explains why he hates colored people, has turned is back on them and consistently votes for regressive policies that to keep them locked out. I've said for a long time that Uncle Tom Thomas deeply wishes he was a white man..... at times he actually does think he is a white man. He's a lot like Mark Robinson from North Carolina...... he thinks he's been accepted into a white world, but really really he has not.
It would be like Alito. A big FU to the people who have never shown him the deference he thinks he's due. He's a miserable SOB who has nothing but smug rancor now.
If Alito steps down, I hope Dems highlight the upcoming opening in Senate races. It sucks, but a Dem Senate can hold SCOTUS to 8 judges until 2028 (Probably with a different Majority leader though). Maybe I'm dreaming since Barrett was confirmed in approximately 3 days, but still worth a shot.
Oh, little Sam is just hoping that trumpi will give him the Medal of Freedom (freedom?) or some such pat as he kicks him offstage to put one his real toadies down on the bench.
Odious as one may find him... he did something not even the liberal judges did... bring up the constitutional law.. maybe he is a hypocrite and voted differently from what he said.
"private property owners who generally open their property to the public can be forced to allow concealed carry holders on their property unless they explicitly prohibit it." What a characterization! Surely you can see the problem with this dishonest framing.

How about Thomas??

Thomas is an angry man, who was mocked as a child, and never got over it, inspite of his affirmative action rise to the pinnacle of power.
This PBS frontline story tells the tale.

Interesting to remember that Sam Alito was Dubya’s second choice … after Harriet Myers.
Um, no. Roberts was the second choice after Myers was rejected (2005) Alito was nominated 3 months later for another opening early 2006.
I hate to say it... but hopefully after the midterm and or the presidential election in 2028... Along with Thomas.
Here come James Ho, who has been auditioning for a Scotus nomination since trump appointed him to the 5th CA...aaaaargh!
He was my pick for replacement. Mainly because he would actually be worse than Alito.
The 5th is historically awful. 🙄
Yeah. Thomas and his vote on paxton.. he can go punch sand.
Roberts and Gorsuch and Kavanaugh too

I feel like Thomas wants 2 more years so he can break the Douglas service time record.
That would be his f.u. to everyone involved in the Anita Hill thing: you couldn't stop me and I'll be on the bench longer than anyone ever has.
Doingmybest... you are correct "Thomas and his vote on paxton.. he can punch sand." Love it!
Thank you for the breakdown, Chris!

They'll replace him before the end of the year
Very probably! But I think Dems being on record as saying “We remember what happened with Garland, and we're not going to let it happen again.”
Dreaming.
May Alito's retirement speed his arrival in hell.
The second amendment decision makes sense.
If you're right about retirement(s), how sweet would it be to flip the Senate?
Oh, little Sam is just hoping that trumpi will give him the Medal of Freedom (freedom?) or some such pat as he kicks him offstage to put one his real toadies down on the bench.
He is the only judge that valued free speech in the talks about age gating and making the internet a "show your papers"
Odious as one may find him... he did something not even the liberal judges did... bring up the constitutional law.. maybe he is a hypocrite and voted differently from what he said.
Out with a bang? So Alito!
🤞

We can hope, but I think it’s a declaration that this is the Alito court, not Robert’s.
