So, Alito is fine being a virulent racist so long as you don’t call him one? Pretty rich. All he has to do is muse about Trump wanting to suspend TPS for black and brown people, while expanding it for Afrikaners, and the answer is obvious. Of course he’s blind to all of that. He’s an awful person married to someone who might be even more awful. I’m old enough to know that conservatives on the court were not as intellectually dishonest in prior times.

Even more amazing is that Alito’s family must have endured the bigotry shown to Southern Italians and Roman Catholics … and yet, instead of empathy, he prefers the power of the whip hand.

Critique the rulings all you want—that’s fair game. But once it turns into mind-reading motives and personal attacks, the argument loses ground. Focus on the decisions and the legal reasoning if you want real accountability.

I hate to say it... but hopefully after the midterm and or the presidential election in 2028... Along with Thomas.

Here come James Ho, who has been auditioning for a Scotus nomination since trump appointed him to the 5th CA...aaaaargh!

He was my pick for replacement. Mainly because he would actually be worse than Alito.

Yeah. Thomas and his vote on paxton.. he can go punch sand.

Doingmybest... you are correct "Thomas and his vote on paxton.. he can punch sand." Love it!

It would be like Alito. A big FU to the people who have never shown him the deference he thinks he's due. He's a miserable SOB who has nothing but smug rancor now.

I feel like Thomas wants 2 more years so he can break the Douglas service time record.

That would be his f.u. to everyone involved in the Anita Hill thing: you couldn't stop me and I'll be on the bench longer than anyone ever has.

Thank you for the breakdown, Chris!

If Alito steps down, I hope Dems highlight the upcoming opening in Senate races. It sucks, but a Dem Senate can hold SCOTUS to 8 judges until 2028 (Probably with a different Majority leader though). Maybe I'm dreaming since Barrett was confirmed in approximately 3 days, but still worth a shot.

They'll replace him before the end of the year

Very probably! But I think Dems being on record as saying “We remember what happened with Garland, and we're not going to let it happen again.”

The second amendment decision makes sense.

He is the only judge that valued free speech in the talks about age gating and making the internet a "show your papers"

Doingmybest's avatar

Odious as one may find him... he did something not even the liberal judges did... bring up the constitutional law.. maybe he is a hypocrite and voted differently from what he said.

Out with a bang? So Alito!

We can hope, but I think it’s a declaration that this is the Alito court, not Robert’s.

Oh, little Sam is just hoping that trumpi will give him the Medal of Freedom (freedom?) or some such pat as he kicks him offstage to put one his real toadies down on the bench.
