Fascinating, beautiful art work along with lovely, cryptic poetry. This was an amazing read this morning Chris. You were a very lucky duck to be able to attend such wonderful event. Thank you for sharing it with us, and will reStack ASAP 🙏
Oh, lovely! Hockney as the perfect answer - calm and reflective - to the daily insanity. And let’s not forget the short, but poignant, artistic lifetime of Keith Haring—we need the exuberance too.
When we were in Paris, we made a beeline for the David Hockney exhibit at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. It is magnificent. I think my favorite part was the immersive, multimedia experience with the operas. Lying on the floor, on those cushions and watching the figures floating on the walls, ceiling and floor, while listening to the music was so relaxing and calming.
And then, the giant tree painting, when viewed from the far end of the room was a cohesive whole, but when you got closer, yo saw it was composed of 50 (maybe 60) individual canvases that didn't exactly line up. Truly a masterwork!
Thank you Chris, you certainly deserve a vacation. With all the tumult and shouting, it is heartening to know that a serious law dork understands the humanizing value of art, for art's sake. I came up in the art world, concerned about the state of our nation during the Free Speach Movement and the fascist fear, articulated loudly by Ronnie Raygun (prompted by GE, the largest arms manufacturer) that an educated population would stop them in their quest for domination.
Hockney, Isherwood and so many others have been part of my world for most of my life. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your vacation.
My wife and I saw the wonderful Hockney exhibit mounted at the Pompidou in Paris several years ago...stunning in all its aspects. Also, an unexpected treat was the Hockney show at the Palm Springs Art Museum this past winter...160 pieces sampling works from Hockney's early twenties to contemporary works....and, no, it wasn't just "swimming pools" !
You did more than justice to the man's staggering talent, Chris.

History always treats itself and many people refuse to see it.

Lived experiences artistically preserved. In plain sight. Not hidden. Waiting to be shared when time is right.
