An appeals court on Wednesday allowed DHS's ending of TPS for Ethiopia to proceed. Immigrant communities affected, meanwhile, are facing impossible choices and a hateful DHS.
I can't shake the feeling that DHS actually wants them dead, like so many vermin, because that is the likely outcome. Shipping them to third world countries is relatively cheap, and like one of those covered mousetraps, no one has to see the mangled corpse.
We put a racist into the presidency. His support comes from the so-called evangelical (also racist)religious Christian right. It’s America’s moral relativity on display. And all the bribes (sic campaign contributions) and deportation orders and family separations it’s all oh so legal.
It would seem fairly straightforward that a program that can be begun with the presidential order can be ended in the same way. That said, the issue seems to me be one of policy. The fact that mass deportation becomes legally possible does not mean it is socially desirable. Were I the Trump Administration, I would use the power judiciously, against individuals with extensive criminal records and so forth.
I remember hearing about a time in this country and others when people moved from place to place in secret to escape people that wanted to treat them badly. Are we there yet?
There is a pretty decent sized Ethiopian population in the suburbs of Dallas where I live. My son was dating a girl who was born in Ethiopia and was adopted by an Ethiopian couple and came to the US. No one has stood out to me as being particularly unwilling to assimilate. Yes, there are Ethiopian groceries here now, but they also have a whole restaurant that puts pineapples on hamburgers and that's so much more dangerous to our community.
So the folks that have tps are advised by the government to return to their home countries EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE MORE DANGEROUS THAN WHEN THEY LEFT!

Believe me, they do want them dead. The cruelty is the entire point with this administration, especially the cruelty to minorities.

Trump is not making any sense or any consistency period I guess it's a day ending in Y but it's still terrifying.

This is extremely shameful. We as a country have so much penance to perform. (Yes, I know it’s the leadership, but it’s ours and under our watch.)
