The illegal effort to put Donald Trump's name on the Kennedy Center has always been a metaphor — but, this weekend, it became a story of how we get through this.
What is highly concerning is the lack of substantiation in Shumate’s claims. Where are the affidavits supporting the allegations? Where are the reports evidencing serious structural defects rendering the Center unsafe for occupancy? Trump’s lawyers appear to have this habit of making stuff up and putting it in pleadings in a manner that would embarrass a first year attorney and open a lawyer practicing in any court reprimand if not referral to an appropriate disciplinary committee.
Pleadings that make up facts with no supporting affidavit are not zealous advocacy. They are a filing that would embarrass a competent paralegal, and the judge's patience for them has a natural limit.
I hope this time in our country can put the final nails in the coffin of "Rugged individualism." None of this change happens due to a single person. As mentioned, it's many people working together to strive, pick each other up, and celebrate. No one does anything worth doing alone, and we as a country need to remember that now more than ever.

Celebrating the wins while starting over the next day is not naive optimism. It is the only operational posture available to people who intend to outlast the disruption.
Dealing with Trump’s shame is going to be the most difficult I think. It’s so pronounced. I feel in a way that the only way forward in removing him will involve this battle with his narcissism, where every gain will involve his feeling humiliated and then lashing out.
I guess I’m speaking to my concerns about keeping our own dignity and integrity intact in the process. His hanging that tarp to hide the process is really bothering me. It seems harmless but it’s not.

Snap! I know why I’m troubled. That curtain sends a message to his base that he’s a victim. That he’s being humiliated by us when in actuality he’s his own source of humiliation. He amped up the live-streaming event into a spectacle.
Chris, would there be grounds (and standing) to sue Trump to return all the taxpayer money he illegally wasted having the sign put up and taken back down? What about the contractors that illegally pulled down the East Wing? It seems like the nation shouldn’t be on the hook to pay for one man’s illegal actions and the cost of undoing those actions. Especially not when he’s a billionaire. If he was held responsible for paying back what he spent that wasn’t his to spend, maybe he (and others) might think twice about doing that kind of thing again? Probably not, but a gal can dream, can’t she?
Imagine the scene when Donald J. Trump is finally removed in reality as well as metaphor. It will be worth the fight, and hopefully many drag queens will be there to help celebrate!
I am eagerly awaiting seeing a series of TRump functionaries get their asses thrown in jail. His incompetent lawyers disbarred as well as jailed. People like the operator of the excavator that knocked down the East Wing. Throw them in jail. And lose their paperwork. Maybe even send them to El Salvador or Guantanamo. No habeas corpus for you! Make that part of the decision making process for everyone else who in contemplating "just following orders" of or on behalf of the president.
