These stories are connected. The religious fanaticism of Justice Alito and the hatred of transgender people stem from hatred and bigotry. It is time for those who raise certain issues to the Court to make motions to recuse and force the issue. It is time for the public to become even more aware of these issues.

Certainly I think they’re connected; that’s why I connected them. I do think the coming weeks will bring forward opportunities to confront Alito (and Thomas) about this, but I’m not sure — though I could be convinced otherwise — recusal motions are the right path.

Chris, I’m so grateful you have created a safe space for us to discuss these issues so impacting our lives. For me, these events have translated to getting up at 2am thinking about them, thinking about what this means in terms of threat levels for our community and wondering when to activate my plans for expatriation. I have had some serious threats, and while I have been able to put them aside and function, I wonder at what point these will be too much for me. Too much for all of us.
