Precisely. Our country made a promise. People trusted us to keep our word. They acted on it. Our country acted on it. Both invested in it. Now a random hateful regime wants to unilaterally wholesale reverse into cruelty and what amounts to destroying people’s lives, not to mention the communities they have woven into.
A nation whose laws shift based on the whims of its leader is not a functional one, nor one that other countries will (or should!) trust.
I honestly can’t believe that masses will come for US-based World Cup games, tbh, but since I’m neither particularly invested in football nor immediately impacted here in 🇨🇦, I admit that I’ve little insight into the minds of national team fans from around the world (would it be like seeing my favourite team play for the Stanley Cup?) 🤷♂️
But it seems to me I’d be hesitant to take this once in a lifetime opportunity based on the potential stakes. And ticket resale market prices …
Every time any court, at any level, anywhere in this country finds against this horrific, overreaching, cruel, mindless, and lawless administration's agenda, it is cause for celebration. Although the misnamed government has deep pockets, multitudes of inept greedy lawyers, and unmitigated gall, We the People can draw strength, courage, and renewed resolve to keep on fighting for the Constitution, the rule of law, and our rights and freedoms. Stand firm, patriots! Defiance til death!
The trump regime is trying to make America into land of lies and freedom only for the privileged few. We the people .just stand up for liberty and justice for all.
I read in one source that a refugee cannot actually start the green card process UNTIL they've been here a year. Is that true? If so, that means they have ONE DAY to apply? What if that happens to be a Sunday or holiday?
The same source tells me that admitted refugees are in fact admitted and never in "the custody" of DHS--or at least of the ICE/CBP part of it. . If true, how can they be "returned" to custody?
Apparently DHS as a whole isn't even the way one applies for a green card; that is the job of USCIS, a very specific subagency in DHS that has nothing to do with ICE or CPB absent some crime committed while here. So "returned to custody" must simply mean that USCIS (and thus DHS) now has a role in the immigration process. It can't mean ICE can haul the refugee off to a warehouse because ICE never had any jurisdiction the refugee could "return" to.
Under Noem, the various functions of DHS (which include FEMA of course) are all melted into Power to ICE.

Minnesota judges are leading the way in pushing back on unconstitutional and illegal behavior by the government.
Thank you, Judge Tunheim.
Thanks for this reporting and clear explanation, another example of our courageous courts telling it like it is.
“the Court will not allow those who relied on this Nation’s promise of safety to be met instead with handcuffs”
Judges are sounding more like Lincoln and KJ Bible by the day
Thank you, Judge Tunheim, and thank you, Law Dork for the coverage!

Remember “basket of deplorables”???
It was an understatement!

Excellent decision. I miss the days of logical thought. Immigration law is crazy enough, making it crazier is really unnecessary.
At the same time per Reuters the Trump administration aims to bring in 4500 white South Africans per month as refugees.
I guess the upside to that is we get to watch the vetting procedure, which oddly may help going forward.
