That's a strong ruling and she seems to have anticipated the various ways the administration might have tried to delay implementation. Kudos to Judge Kobick!

Wow, amazingly good news. Chris, do you think it's likely that the injunction will be in place long enough for a typical American to apply for a passport with name change documents and selecting a gender marker in this way, and get it back? I'm worried about my fiancee sending in her application because of this but a stay being issued by a higher court and State confiscating her passport or sending it back wrong as has happened to others recently.

So now is the time to apply? I've been waiting to turn in my son's paperwork.

If you're in Massachusetts, I say yes ... quickly. They take a while to process. I wouldn't wait around for idiot to somehow find a way around the judge. Just make sure you have copies of everything. Some passport offices have been known to confiscate ID documents. When opportunities present themselves, don't wait around for permission, mom.

Does this apply to social security gender change as well? Or is it entirely separate?

Unfortunately, that is totally separate, yeah.

One is dumbfounded. Is the current administration arguing that bigotry is okay as long as it’s for the marginalized? Under what laws? Is discrimination now legal again?

It's all the rage nowadays in the State Department, David

Indeed—all about rage … and bullying … and violence … but amazingly, very little about what is legal versus (ill-) wishful thinking.

So it seems the state department still has not reverted the change. They're still operating under Rubio's policy implementing the executive order, a week later. What recourse do trans people have for the passport office ignoring a federal court order granting of relief?

In other words, Mr. Asshole-in-Chief, it's none of your damned business. Go play with yourself. 1 step forward, 10 steps back. But at least it's a step in the right direction.

I just need to get my social security card changed before I can apply for a passport. I hope that will change soon as well.

I’m assuming they won’t let me get my correct passport until my last piece of documentation is corrected.

Do you think other federal IDs are covered, like social security or Nexus cards?
