Grateful that we're still permitted to read your reports in this country. If this is how they're behaving now, I dread seeing what they do when they're backed into a corner.
What I saw in his announcement about the non profits was “Trump alleges that some of the qualifying nonprofit organizations may “engage in illegal, or what we would consider to be improper activities.”” Consider that last phrase
And, to be clear, there is a simple constitutional solution/response to these acts. - which are direct, clear abuses of power. By definition, these acts are “high crimes and misdemeanors” as they are criminal and inappropriate use of Trump’s position. That is what the constitution means by “high crimes.” If the feckless majority party in congress does not assert their authority, then the checks and balances fall apart. They can and should remove him from office.
This is exactly correct. Think back to Carolene Products. Political process can solve abuses of power. Many would even argue that the lack of political process against trump by congress would suggest congress, and thus the people, do not see an abuse of process.
Every night on MSNBC, Rachel Maddow provides coverage of the street demonstrations against the current administration. There are many of them, all across the country. The MSM doesn't cover them at all, leading most people to believe that we're laying down and playing dead in the face of this fascist onslaught.
We're not.
However, it doesn't mean that Orange doesn't still have some more authoritarian nonsense he plans to deploy.
Give me a break... Trump has been in an authoritarian mode since 2016! Not just these last 6 weeks! He's running rampant and the rule of law can't catch up. He needs to be thrown to the wolves NOW! If you get what I mean!!!!
Dems are spineless and apparently toothless (except Al Green)! I considered becoming Independent but that would accomplish nothing.
Smackdown and sMASH the MUSKito. Strip him of citizenship, place him behind bars, or send him to MARS on a 1 way flight!
And...
on Friday, March 7, participate in the continuing Economic Blackout and boycott everything Amazon for 1 week until Friday, March 14. Please join the millions to show our People Power 💪 . This is not hard, an easy form of RESISTANCE. Together can do this!
Thanks Chris, this was a lot of information tonight, but what needs to be reported on. I don't hear most of what you've written,on Main Stream Media at All?! Ari Melber and Rachel Maddow over at MSNBC only report on cases that will go before the Supreme Court. How can lawyers or Law Firms challenge trump's insane orders, If in fact they'll be investigated by the DOJ ?! This has got to be stopped Now, before he's to Embolden to be Stopped!! Great article, and will reStack ASAP 💯 👍 🇺🇸
All the litigation is great. But in a sense it’s a diversion. All the wealthy, prestigious institutions with a financial stake are being badly harmed, yet can’t manage to come up with anything approaching a United front—even within their own economic sector. We need mass action, and soon.
But even an earnest threat from the congressional Republicans would go a long way to curb these abuses. Unfortunately they are feckless rather than earnest
Pressure Congress? You haven’t paid attention to the fact that Trump controls Congress, and the Senate, and the Supreme Court, and the military, etc, etc. Keep supporting your Democrat representatives and make your voice heard.
The Perkins Coie and Columbia EOs are disturbingly similar to bills of attainder, wherein the state declares guilt and punishment without judicial process. Such bills had been a tool of repression in England, whose constitutional form is legislative supremacy (e.g., the official name of the legislature is still the High *Court* of Parliament). Thus, in England, there could be no formal ban on such bills.
The US constitution, based largely on the British constitution of the time but with some useful improvements, does forbid bills of attainder in their traditional, legislative form. However, little thought was given to forbidding similar acts by the executive branch. Paralleling the accelerating power transfer from the legislative to the executive branch, this omission will cause ever more problems.
Re: attacking the TSA - as Hamilton Nolan pointed out, the likely end goal is privatization. In other words, the TSA is about to become an even bigger farce than it is now.
Everyone needs to write to their Representatives and Senators describing Trump's unlawful and unconstitutional acts and orders and demand that he be impeached. Better yet, hand deliver the letter to the legalstor's local office and take a selfie with the staff member you hand it to and post it on the legistator's social media.
Isn't it occurring to anybody that he simply doesn't care about the law, is making up his own, and plans to push even further than is realized? This guy is taking over this country with a load of shit that excludes everybody except who he deems is valuable to his kind of society. The responses are ineffective. People better get ready to fight, because they're not stopping for shit.
Quite simply, Trump punishes others for his being caught.

Love the "Humanity Against Trump" protest sign.

THEY want it this way and will not remove him. It seems they are saying, "Make me!"

What does "respond accordingly" mean? Challenge these actions in the Supreme Court?
Impeachment. Pressure congress to assert its authority
How many republicans need to flip for that to work?
4 or 5 in the house.
Senate is tougher needing 19
But even an earnest threat from the congressional Republicans would go a long way to curb these abuses. Unfortunately they are feckless rather than earnest
I am not both-sidsing it because the sides are not the same, but the democrats are definitely also feckless.

Acting as an “authoritarian” it’s not an act it’s who he is. It’s all he is.

Chilling.
