"It's a really dangerous policy,” an ACLU lawyer representing trans people in federal prison suing the Trump administration tells Law Dork of the new Bureau of Prisons policy.
This is all part of the long term plan to erase the existence of transgender folks, who are not going anywhere and have been with us as long as humans have existed. It's one of the more evil aspects of Project 2025, and Kevin Roberts has publicly stated that his goal is to use the law to remove all support for transgender people. I have trans family members and this is deeply enraging for me and the rest of my family and friends who are so supportive of this vulnerable community. My trans family members have been traumatized by this administration and I will never forgive the Republican Party for enabling and even encouraging this sickness.
OMG, what a shocker. Bending the knee to big oil. I wish I could say I was surprised. Philip Anschutz is the local oil baron who is ok with letting oil worker burn in the field. He told them it was a risk taking on the job. Meanwhile the healthcare company of his I worked for was ok with me getting assaulted while on the job. I
Ick. It also feels clear they are laying the groundwork to say hormonal contraceptives are dangerous. For girls, then women. Iowa already stopped funding emergency contraception in ERs. Even for minors. (Aka abused children)
Here’s the blunt truth: The BOP doesn’t need more culture-war micromanagement — it needs morale and order. You want fewer fights, fewer stabbings, fewer broken men coming back worse than they went in? Start with basics. Feed inmates real food. Yes, bacon on weekends instead of mystery meat sludge. Restore structured family visitation and, where appropriate, conjugal programs that incentivize good behavior and preserve families. Stability reduces violence. Incentives create discipline. Right now the system is all punishment, no rehabilitation, and zero reward for compliance. Stop wasting money on ideological signaling and reinvest in programs that actually reduce recidivism and keep institutions calmer and safer.
Living in close quarters inmates can sus out people who look and act differently. Word spreads quickly. Prison isn't a safe place. Our cousin worked in one. The discontinuation of hormones also does a number on emotions. It is difficult no matter which way a person transitions. I don't think prison is a good place to transition. It is hard enough on the outside.
For cryin' out loud. Are they trying to kill these people? Trying to reverse the treatment trans people have already received is not only futile (some hormonal changes aren't reversible, and obviously surgery isn't) but dangerous to the person's physical health (osteoporosis, cardiovascular problems).
Risk for post-op patients (GenderGP, a service provider): For post-operative trans people who have undergone gender-affirming surgery and no longer have their original gonads, withdrawing hormones is not an option, it’s a medical crisis.
Without estrogen or testosterone replacement, they are at risk of:
Severe bone density loss, leading to osteoporosis and an increased risk of fractures.
Cardiovascular complications, as hormone balance plays a key role in heart health.
Cognitive decline and mood instability, often leading to severe depression and anxiety.
Metabolic dysfunction, impacting weight, energy levels, and overall health.
Reversibility of hormone effects (Johns Hopkins Medicine): Some changes from hormones are permanent. For example, people who take feminizing hormones experience breast development, which will not go away if they later stop hormones. People who take masculinizing hormones experience several permanent changes — voice deepening, facial and body hair growth, scalp hair loss, and clitoral enlargement — which will not go away if they later stop hormones. Other changes are reversible. The long-term effects of hormone therapy on a person’s fertility are not fully understood.
I fail to see difference between the federal government’s objective in this case and the medical mistreatment and experimentation that occurred under the Nazi regime of Germany.
Culture wars do heat up as the Epstein files get worse and worse. Why not just send all transgender prisoners to fight Iran as foot soldiers--kind of a two-fer of distractions.

Ditto on the GOPper - but I'm also profoundly disappointed in the Dems who have stood by silently in the face of such as this.
me too,
Digging into this Judge in Colorado. There seems to be a lot of corruption in the Colorado court system...

Pure vindictiveness.
Heinous

That's exactly what they're doing. We were never the final targets, just the first experiment to see how much they can get away with

Of what, specifically?
abuse
If an inmate stops taking cross sex hormones people will start physically murdering them?

This is so cruel that I am sobbing!
When are people going to stop torturing people who are different from what they have decided is normal!?
We are all normal! What the fu*k is ‘normal’ anyway?
Bigotry, plain and simple. Disgusting bigotry.

Yes, they are!

Black, brown, LGBTQ, Jew, Muslim, Asian, Native American, women … the only ones left, it seems, are white girls.
Those who are left are white cisgender heterosexual men...
Not to the only one who counts … and is counting.
This is surely cruel and inhumane punishment. Denying healthcare should not ever be used as a punishment in a modern day country.
Sadistic, devastating.

Chris,
Criminal abuse lives in this new policy. We are in this together. No Kings. Peace. Christopher and family in SC.
