Its incredible how absolutely callous and vindictive the administration has become. Its sad that such a inept group of individuals were given such immense power basically unchecked in any reasonable manner.

Because to them these are not people like them. They believe their own rhetoric that they are “Untermensch” and therefore lack the finer feelings of the race of super beings that Trump has selected to usher in his Golden Age.

You, Chris, along with Steve Vladeck, Joyce Vance, Marc Elias, and many others are doing heroic work on both educating us and describing in detail the lawlessness and depredations of this callous, rogue regime.

For us non-lawyers, the thorough descriptions of the various court cases, their dispositions, the appellate processes from district court to Scotus has been revelatory, and conveys the ins and outs of constitutional law in a comprehensive and accessible manner.

Many thanks!

Two thoughts about immigration, both of which involve quoting myself:

First, what the whole set of the plans by various federal agencies makes clear but is not often said is that these, um, to be overly polite "people" are not against "illegal immigration." They are against immigration, period.

It's all part of the intent to "Make America White Again" by allowing entry to only the purest, whitest, and Aryan-est - with occasional exceptions for the wealthiest among the undesirable "others."

Second, remember both that it is possible to overestimate their power and that it is not possible to underestimate their intentions.

I wonder if they'll get worse as or if they get backed into a corner. I'm noting how they're going after judges and the media. I still think it's quite possible they resort to the January 6th plan, and that's worrisome. Something's got to give, and it had best not be the rest of us.

Can you explain the difference between an administrative warrant and a judicial warrant? It looks like the administrative warrant does not allow penetration of private spaces (like homes or judicial chambers). Why aren’t her acts protected?

We the People at Work

The People, the protectors of Democracy, are out and about. What "people," out where, about what--and why? First, millions said "Hand Off"to Trump/Musk et al, then on the 19th via 50501" (50 protests, 5o states, 1 Movement) millions more protested the mess in WDC. Also on the 19th we celebrated the "the shot heard around the world at Lexington and Concord, starting the Revolution and our country. On the 22nd protectors of the environment cleaned up a different kind of mess on Earth Day.

As important as the participants in environmental mess cleanup and American history are, this post is dedicated to the named and unnamed protestors fighting the Trump/Musk Washington, DC, tyrannical mess. Or as Susan Grymes calls it: "Protectors" of democracy, and so shall I in this post.

Who are the Protectors of democracy on April 5, 19th, May 1st--or all the everydays in between and into the future?? We will never know the names of each individual marcher, sign holder (or just standing together in solidarity). But we do know by name some people, advocacy groups, judges and law firms, and other entities who have not been cowed, and have fought back publicly--sometimes under threat of death.. Some, such as Sen. Cory Booker, with his 25 hour righteous speech on ethics, morality, and American democracy, have become an inspiration. Here then, in no particular order of noteworthy (except the first three), are the names of many of the army of protectors of democracy--and remember Courage is Contagious:

(Of course, the list is imperfect, Additions are welcomed. Also re-posting is permitted and encouraged.

As bad as the situation is, can’t say how much I appreciate your helping us navigate and respond. Untangling the events, relating to legal framework, the proverbial eat an elephant one bite at a time - turns the situation towards something feasible - if this makes sense…

I'm a new subscriber here and I'm very happy to be part of the community. I'm not a lawyer, though back in the seventies I applied and was admitted to several prestigious law schools. I'm glad I didn't attend because I probably would have flunked out! Many in my extended family are lawyers and I admire them all. It's nice to be here!

The current immigration mess is the brainchild of one of the individuals pictured in your post, who has been pursuing this agenda since he was in upper elementary school. He is obsessed with the notion that all immigrants of color must be removed at any cost. He has an obsessive fear of the "other" and has been censored by members of his family who find his public positions reprehensible.

Wearing us out with outrage is also the plan, but we can't let it stop us.

But we can't just go to court, we have to tie every single one of these actions around the necks of every Republican in every leadership position in the country, and get them to hell out of office and out of our lives.

Trump apparently equates cruelty with strength and he worships strength. What really bothers me is that so many people in the country seem to agree and tolerate or even applaud his cruelty.

What is worse is the attack on the intellegentsia and the disregard of years of accumulated knowledge and expertise in the ranks of employees managing scientific research programs, health and benefit programs and cultural programs. I reference the Chinese cultural revolution launched by Mao Zedong which lasted from 1966 into the mid '70s which took pride in destruction. The Trump/Musk aberrational cuts in employees will destroy years of work by our best and brightest scientists and scholars and many of our own citizens will not survive the cut off of medical services if that happens. The costs of the Trump/Musk mismanagement are far beyond any possible benefit. The trade war is just one example of the callous and uninformed attack on the functioning of our economy. A generation of young and mid level scientists and scholars and specialists is being trashed in order to satisfy a desire to destroy.
