The staff at SSA are so helpful! I worked with them to set up benefits for my kids when my husband died suddenly, and again when I retired. This is horrible. I will say the same for the staff at IRS. I hate to lose these valuable public servants. This destruction is wrecking the lives of ALL Americans, including 100% of taxpayers and 100% of retired people.

I think they are pulling a fast one on us. They are not cutting Social Security, they will reduce the staff so it could take years to collect. All the while the idiot Health and Human Services person was willing to be killing us off by getting rid of vaccines that help keep us a live and also leaving us highly susceptible yo another Pandemic

I just saw the official government message and boy is it full of crapola … they basically accuse people of being useless and not willing to work… such lies!

A massive reduction in force at a time when boomers continue retiring in huge numbers, many of whom will need assistance applying for social security.

Closing social security offices when such closings will leave rural customers with no option but to drive very long distances to receive service.

Irreparable harm is being done to the American people. Perhaps as these unexplained and reactive cuts impact trump voters, they will wake up to the fact that they’ve been lied to by the trump-musk regime.

They want to cause it to fail so they can say that it needs to be Privatized. Then they will put a loyalist aa CEO and suck the money into their bank accounts and then bankrupt it. Look what they did to the FAA, they layed off essential people and now planes are crashing or having other horrible issues. So he states that his company will have to go in and fix the problem by privatizing it under his own company with a 2 billion buck deal. They are following Putin’s plsybook

"Optional retirement, but good freaking luck collecting your retirement benefits because the agency is down to four men and a dog" (or DOGE).

So, this is how they will rid themselves if that d@mned Social Security that actually supports people. Can't do it in Congress b/c too many people like and rely on it! So, destroy its ability to function, then steal the money. 😡😡

This just makes me sick...the Ssa is under staffed to begin with, this will make it even harder to get a hold of someone when you need help. Not to mention all of those people out of work....

"refraining" in the quote from SSA should be "retraining", no?

Social Security was circling the drain…and there she goes.

Interesting. That has not been my experience with SSA. Quite the opposite.

What specific experience led you to thinking the agency is "circling the drain"?

Now though, these drastic cutbacks will definitely damage the agency as well as harming recipients. As planned.

My personal experience with SSA has been good too but then my needs were simple. I just got old. Put another way, SSA has been in the R’s crosshairs for a while and if things continue on their current path, she’s a goner.

Yes that's true, the GOP have been after SS for a long time, laying the foundation for cutting or decimating in some way or another. Though I keep hearing people say, eg during the campaign, 'Oh, he/they won't go after Social Security' - even though it was written in Project 2025.

I seriously hope people will be angry enough to fight back.

Encouraging your oldest, most experienced employees to leave is usually the opposite of efficiency. Paying them to leave is even more counterproductive.

Every senior citizen out there that’s on Social Security and depends on it for a living needs to get out there and start buying up all the canned meat, chicken and beef. A little bit of fish buy up all of the canned goods you can get because we’re not gonna have beef and chicken because The bird flew has infiltrated

Not gonna have fresh fruits or vegetables because we have nobody to harvest and the mega men who are unemployed or too proud to do that kind of work

So it is to your own benefit to get out there and start hoarding as much canned goods as you can, including toilet paper

Remember, we’re not Maga and we don’t spit on 1 ply toilet paper to wipe our asses and call that poor man’s bidet

It's not just elderly but many of us disabled people who are on SSDI and this can affect us as well. The things you suggest are not things I can eat due to a strict diet. I would need a freezer to buy up bulk chicken as I cannot eat canned without reaction. And I don't have extra money to do such things neither does my elderly mother. This is not reality for so many people.

Anyone who believes that the muskrat is streamlining the government to get rid of waste is a delusional moron. I believe his ultimate goal is to free up money so he can get more government contracts. Fuck the people who depend on social security; fuck the government workers whose jobs he stole; fuck those worldwide who depend on our aid, especially the children; fuck the veterans in need of health care. I have never hated anyone as much as I hate agent orange and the muskrat. Not far behind are the puddles that were once the spineless republicans.
