Law Dork is in research mode this month. Subscribe now to support this work! Also: A Louisiana voting rights case is at SCOTUS. And: One execution is scheduled for May.
Thank you for your excellent work. Your eloquence in reporting on critical law and political news is fascinating and helps me stay sane in these crazy times. My therapist thanks you too.
Isn't it funny that the most religious states in this country absolutely love putting people to death.
Why take someone that's been on death row for 20 years and then execute them now ? Other than to flip the bird to everyone in the United States as if to say "hey look at me I can kill people". Ivan Cantu was executed in Texas in February after they refused to look at new evidence. Given the countless documentaries on Netflix about innocent people being exonerated, new DNA evidence, the hundreds of people that the Innocence Project has helped get exonerated, the coerced confessions, the false confessions, the shitty eyewitness testimonies, the 200 people on death row that have been exonerated since 1975.... think about how many innocent people we have already very likely executed, long before DNA even became available..... think about how many innocent people are just rotting in jail on a 25-year sentence. And then conversely we have this fucking asshole named Donald Trump who's never seen the inside of a cell.
Don't get me wrong, if somebody committed the crime they need to do the time- but that's only after all evidence has been tested and no corruption or coercion or extortion by investigators. If there is even a whiff of new evidence that could exonerate someone, we are compelled to properly investigate that.
Yes, I saw (when you posted yesterday). I will address that at some point. I don’t share articles that don’t link to the rulings, though, and I haven’t had time to find the ruling itself. Thanks for highlighting it, though.
Thanks, Chris, for your continuing insights, news, and explanations. I think we all appreciate you.

Thanks. I put it here for others since that was an old thread.
Robert Dunham provided a link to an article paywalled but now has a link to the order. Will await your further discussion.
